Transforming Talent Acquisition: TPD's Innovative Solution to Remote Recruitment Challenges

 

The Challenge

A prominent global company specializing in energetic materials encountered substantial hurdles within their talent acquisition process. The organization's internal Human Resources division faced challenges in candidate sourcing due to their demanding schedules- diverting their focus from their core proficiencies. Adding to the complexity, attracting candidates became notably more difficult, given that the position was based in a remote locale in British Columbia characterized by a high cost of living, and further compounded by a shortage of skilled mechanics. Despite having their job advertisement posted for half a year, the response was disappointingly low, with only two applicants stepping forward. The Solution

TPD’s goals were to really understand the challenges faced by the company and then take a unique approach to resolve them. Our recruiters harnessed their specialized regional knowledge. Departing from conventional methods, the strategy entailed a focus on selling the geographical area rather than the role itself. TPD's mining team embarked on a proactive sourcing campaign, tapping into an extensive database of skilled candidates. With daily endeavors dedicated to active candidate sourcing, we amplified the pool of potential candidates.

Upon identifying suitable candidates, TPD's approach took an innovative turn. 

 

Instead of conventional job-centric selling, the recruiters reframed the narrative to emphasize the unique living experience the area offered. Our recruiters not only sold the area to candidates but also made it easy for candidates to picture themselves relocating and living in that area. They shared affordable real estate listings, great local schools for children, and a list of attractions. The client's remote location situated a considerable distance from the nearest city and accompanied by a higher cost of living, could have been seen as a drawback. However, TPD's recruiters transformed these aspects into selling points. The region's scenic beauty, characterized by proximity to national parks and local attractions, was positioned as an enticing feature. Additionally, the rarity of day shifts for the role was strategically highlighted, offering an advantage not commonly found in similar positions.

 

The Results

TPD's approach showcases a remarkable transformation of recruitment strategy tailored to address a challenging scenario. 

Our recruiters understood the client's needs and leveraged their regional insights to design a unique approach that yielded impressive results. Initially, the client engaged TPD's assistance in filling three key positions. In just two months, we successfully filled two of these positions, achieving a 67% fill rate. As our collaboration continued, we secured a total of 15 hires, filling 75% of the requested roles. The client commended our consistent follow-up and transparent communication. Notably, we achieved a substantial 60% cost reduction by transitioning from contract workers to employees. The company also saw a remarkable return on their investment in TPD's services after just four rotations.
